The Statistical Part

ESAS is continuously building up a database of all orthodontists using the ESAS. This database is the basis for statistical comparisons (e.g. either all orthodontists and cases, or with defined groups of orthodontists and their cases, or defined cases with all orthodontists, or defined cases with defined groups of orthodontists)

The database will grow continuously since all new orthodontists using ESAS and their cases will be added to the database. This will allow the ESAS Statistical Part to develop over time. For the time being, comparison will be limited to your own results versus the database averages until the database has sufficiently grown to perform more sophisticated statistics.

Statistics will be shown in ‘Graphs’ and ‘Details’.
For TP (Treatment Process), TO (Treatment Outcome) and PS (Patient Satisfaction), the graphs are based on a % outcome. The % is calculated only for questions having a direct positive relation to quality.
This means that not all questions of TP (phase 1-5) and TO have been involved: question 10 in TP phase-4 about treatment phases doesn’t count in this respect, neither do the questions 5, 6 and 7 about removable and fixed retainers in TP phase-5, nor do in TO the questions 4 about extraction, 5 about type of appliance, 6 about presenting anomaly (IOTN), 7 about level of difficulty, 8 about expected treatment duration, 9 about number of appointments and 10 about number of breakages/repairs. For PS all questions are involved in the % calculation. All answers, including those to questions not having a direct positive relation to quality will however be used for grouping for the more sophisticated statistics of e.g. defined cases.
The details show your average and the database average for every question informing you also about differences besides quality that may be of interest to you too.
